GARDENING 1
The Rose Colored Forest is proud to offer gardening courses for the first time.  We are successful market gardeners selling at the Bayou City Farmer’s Market in Houston.  Our produce was reviewed in the Houston Press.

Gardening 1 is all about soil and pest management.  Our course is designed for local conditions, since this is where we grow.  Our gardens go all summer, and are still producing.  We think everyone’s should.  We are a sustainable farm, so all methods, practices and products are healthy for us and the environment.   While it is true we garden for a living, our gardens are not commercial gardens.  We just grew our personal gardens to a larger size, to have enough to sell at market.  Our attitudes and practices have not changed and are totally appropriate to a small family garden.  The course has lots of hands on work, in our gardens.  Not to do our work for us, but just enough for you to really understand what we are doing.

The class starts at 8AM, sharp on Oct 10th.  It runs until noon, when a vegetarian lunch will be served.  We start again at 1PM and run until 5PM. We do ask the students to go and find dinner at this time, or to sit quietly and eat what they brought.   This gives us a break to do our chores, we are a full farm.  At 7PM, everyone is invited back for a social evening, to sit and talk gardening and to enjoy the company of other local gardeners.  You are welcome to bring a moderate amount of alcoholic beverages with you for the evening.  If conditions allow, we will have a fire.  Popcorn will be provided.

We strongly ask that all participants come fragrance free, you instructor thinks more clearly when not bothered by fragrances.  She is also much nicer that way.

The class will be held outside, in the gardens.  We do have pavilions for shade and seating is provided.  In case of rain, we will use the greenhouses.   We will have clip boards and handouts for some of the information, but something to take notes on may be a good idea.

Gardening 2 will deal with seed sowing and saving and will be held 4 weeks later.  Information on Gardening 2 will be available at Gardening1.

Class will be held on October 10, 2009.  Cost is $100, payable with your registration.  The class is limited to 10 people.
