Cold Weather Blues

February 14, 2012

Yes, I know I skipped yesterday. It was cold, wet and nasty. I just huddled up to Big Bertha, our wood stove and tried to stay warm.

Sunday didn't see much done, but we did have an opportunity to do the full farm tour with Zach and Randa, whom have been helping us so much these last few weeks. Garth looked after the boys, taking them for a trekker ride, until they got too cold, then watching a movie with them. It was fun to watch, Garth was like an old dog, given a new kitten companion. He rediscovered his own youth, came fully awake and for a while, forgot about the oil field, being tired and how old he really is. A nice break for him.

Meanwhile, I got a chance to do the full tour, explaining what we are doing in various parts of the farm, and more important, why we have made the choices we have. This does take a while, and it is difficult to do with all the interruptions the boys make. As we work on each part of the project, we will teach them about it, but it is information over load for children to do the whole thing at once.

It did make for a wonderful Sunday, but Monday was just plain miserable. I did do chores with Zach, and he brought in several loads of wood. My indoor stash was empty, so I was desperate for wood. This house would have been very cold last night without it. As is, I have been nice and comfortable. Today, it will warm up. I can clean the ash out, and get ready for the next round of cold weather.
