First Day of the Rest of My Life

February 15, 2012

I know it has been less than a month of recovery, but it has seemed like forever. Finally, after talking with the doctor yesterday, she lifted the restrictions on what I can do. That is, on the understanding that I am sensible and don't rush into picking up bags of concrete. But, I can work as I feel able, to push a little, to get my strength back. And, once I can sneeze without pain, I can ride my motorcycle again. Which should be about two or three weeks. This is much earlier than she first said, originally I didn't expect to get to ride again until April. Instead, weather cooperating, I will be back on my bike in March. I am happy.

Of course this meant that I spent what was a perfect day for working on the farm, sitting in stinky offices, getting inundated with perfume and other nasty chemicals so I came home tired and cranky, despite good news. While my oncologist does try, she can't control her patients or those who come with them. But a shower and a good meal and I felt much better.

So, this morning will be spent doing my own chores. Then, I will start on the fixing the hot fencing, finding out why it isn't working and getting my cows home. That should be a good days work. I hope I can get it done in a day, so I can start on the stanchion for Lady tomorrow.

I did have fun starting a new needlework project. Garth and I decided years ago now, that we just don't have the wall space to do any more 'pictures' as pretty as they are. We prefer to decorate our walls with bookcases, for some silly reason. And, we don't have all that many interior walls, we don't seem to like them. Many years ago, I made fancy needlework Christmas Stocking for my Grandchildren. At the time, I found a book that has some nice ones that Garth and I would like for ourselves. So, I started on Garth's stocking. Since I now have a treadle machine to do my quilting on, I needed a new hand project.

Some day, I hope to have a dining room with antique chairs that will have needlework seats and backs. It will be a fun project that should keep me busy forever. As I expect that by the time I finish doing them, some will be worn out already and need redoing. We shall see. The cover I made for an antique stool is actually standing up really well. It has been in use for over five years and show no sign of wearing out. And yes, it does get used, dirty shoes and all. Every chair will have a different needlework, I have no intention of doing them all the same. It will give me a chance to use the extensive library I have of patterns. As long as the chairs are the same, I think it will look good. Anyway, it is an idea.
