Another wonderful morning, properly prepared for last night. I am going to make a habit of this. Since we use a percolator to make coffee, it takes a while anyway. And a hand grinder for the beans, so it normally takes a good half hour to get coffee. I like my coffee as soon as possible when I wake up, so setting it up the night before works well.
I did go out to work on the fence yesterday. I do believe the problem is with our charger. Unfortunately, I am not a good enough technician to get into fixing that. So, the fence waits for Garth. Hopefully he will be back tonight, so he can get it fixed tomorrow.
I need to do some baking today. In Conroe tomorrow, there is a food swap. People are getting together to swap various garden produce and food stuffs made under the new cottage food laws. While this is a ways away, the idea is that if we like it, we want to start a swap like this in Huntsville. I will be going with Randa and Linda, so we can check it out. And, it will be a fun, girls day out.
I am also busy with a community order for walnuts and almonds, so that must be put together today. So I can send out the costs to everyone. It is great to be able to support farmers directly and to get a better product for doing so. By buying direct, we avoid the irradiating of the nuts, so our nuts will actually be raw. The hoops it takes to get healthy food.
Lady Leche continues to be a problem, she will not let anyone near that udder of hers. Including Buttercup. However, the swelling and heat have gone down. I hope to get her into a stanchion this weekend, and save her milk production. It will be interesting to say the least. She is also getting a halter on, whether she likes it or not. In time, she will come to appreciate it, as it will allow us to stake her out, where ever we have grass. By summer, that will be a big deal for her.
Lady Leche also has no plans on getting bred either. She has gotten really good at running from Buttercup. That is one super uncooperative cow. She is looking more and more like hamburger these days. My ideal was to have two, mini jerseys. This may yet come to pass.
We do have to get things running smoothly around here again, so we can spend a few weekends butchering. Vittles, our Dexter bull needs to go in the freezer, so does Buttercup. But with rain forecast all weekend, I don't believe that is going to happen any time soon.
