Voulunteer opportunites for those who want to learn more about what we are doing, through hands on experience.

We love to share what we are doing, but time to sit and talk doesn't exist.  When people come to the farm to help, we then have time to do farm tours, share a meal and visiting time and still get the work done.  Visitors are restricted to adults and teenagers 16 and over.  We are a construction zone and not set up for children.  No pets are allowed to visit.  Due to biohazards, we ask that you wear footwear that can be cleaned upon your arrival.  No fragrances allowed.  I suffer from multiple chemical sensitivity and get very sick from fragrances, so please, do not be insulted if I ask you to stay downwind from me.

We do enjoy making the work fun, but warning, we tend to overload people with too much information about what we are doing.

Here are the current projects we are working on.  We will be updating this page everytime we finish a project and add a new one.

For those who like to opporate a chain saw, pound t-posts and stretch fence, there is always work like that to be done, but I won't be posting pictures.  Somehow, no one wants to volunteer for that.<grin>

June 18th, 2009
It is our turn to host a community work day. We are working with three other farms to get the big projects done and to have fun doing them. It is an old fashioned idea, but one that needs to become fashionable again. We are holding it during the work week, since all the farms involved are market farmers, Saturdays are our workdays. The day will be spent working on fences, cutting and clearing and putting up new field fence to keep our sheep safe. There are lots of light jobs, not just heavy work to be done. Chain saws, fence pounders, pliers and good work gloves are the tools to bring. We will be serving pot roast rabbit and mashed potatoes, all sides are pot luck. So bring something to share. We do ask for an RSVP of who will be here, so we can be organized and to make sure we have enough food. Water and tea will be supplied, if you like sodas, you will need to bring them. If you have folding chairs, bring them. Email us at gartht@txcyber.com for further details.

AQUAPONICS
Aquaponics is the marriage of hydroponics and aquaculture.  The picture shows Kim working on the first grow bed for the system and the pond of fish in the ground beside it.  There are 6 growbeds being built, to act at the biofilter to the 1000 gallon in ground pond with approximately 400 fish in it.  The system is operating, even though not finished.  The last three growbeds need to be finished, then finishing touches put on.  An interesting way to grow greens and fish, sustainably.  A solar array will be added, when finished to power the entire system.
